What are the materials of the fuel trailer tank

1. Ordinary Carbon Steel:
A common material used in traditional tanks, it offers low cost and easy processing, making it suitable for transporting less corrosive fuels such as diesel and kerosene. However, it has poor corrosion resistance and is prone to rusting from long-term exposure to high-sulfur fuels or in humid environments. Regular anti-corrosion coating and maintenance are required, and its service life is typically 5-8 years.
2. Stainless Steel:
Using 304 stainless steel as the mainstream material, it also contains chromium-nickel alloys and offers excellent corrosion resistance. It is suitable for transporting volatile or corrosive fuels such as gasoline and ethanol. Its smooth surface resists scaling, making it easy to clean and maintain, and its service life can reach 10-15 years. However, the material cost is 30%-50% higher than carbon steel, and the welding process requirements are more stringent.
3. Aluminum Alloy:
A representative lightweight material, it is approximately 40% lighter than carbon steel tanks of the same volume, reducing fuel consumption and increasing payload. Its corrosion resistance surpasses that of carbon steel, especially its resistance to seawater erosion, making it suitable for use in coastal areas. However, aluminum alloys have low strength and are not impact-resistant. Welding requires specialized equipment, and maintenance costs are high. They are primarily used for long-distance transport where weight reduction is crucial.
4. Fiberglass Reinforced Plastic (FRP):
Made from a composite of glass fiber and resin, they offer exceptional chemical resistance and can transport highly corrosive special fuels such as methanol and biodiesel. The tank body is seamlessly molded, minimizing the risk of leaks and weighing less than carbon steel. However, they have poor heat resistance and are susceptible to degradation and cracking after prolonged exposure to temperatures above 60°C. Their service life is approximately 8-10 years.
5. Steel-Plastic Lined:
A polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) plastic layer lines the interior of a carbon steel tank, combining the strength of steel with the corrosion resistance of plastic. They are suitable for transporting fuels or additives containing acids and alkalis, with a cost somewhere between that of carbon steel and stainless steel. However, damage to the plastic lining is difficult to repair and they are not heat-resistant, requiring operation below 60°C.
